  • CUPRA Raval takes the top prize at the News UK Motors Awards 2026
  • Latest accolade adds to Raval’s award-winning UK debut

Milton Keynes, 01-10-2026 – The new all-electric CUPRA Raval has been crowned Car of the Year by The Sun. This is another major accolade for CUPRA’s gamechanger car, as more and more are hitting the streets of the UK following its launch in August of this year.

Raval challenges expectations of what an urban EV can be. Compact by design but bold in character, it brings CUPRA’s distinctive attitude to a new generation of electric drivers. Its striking proportions, a driving experience which had been positively compared to driving a go-kart and unmistakable design bring a new edge to the urban EV segment.

The Sun Motors Editor Rob Gill, said: “Why do we like it? Partly because of the way it looks. I mean, come on! But mostly because of the way it drives. The way it dances down a B-road. Think Lamine Yamal on Barcelona’s right wing.

“The youth of today don’t want to drive their grandad’s car. They want something fresh and different, something that reflects them. That’s the Cupra Raval.”

Marcus Gossen, Managing Director, CUPRA UK said: “Raval shows what happens when you bring the CUPRA mindset to an urban EV aimed at the next generation of drivers. We didn’t want to create another small electric car. We wanted to create one with real emotion – a genuine head turner, with the performance to match. It’s a car that people choose because they want it – it’s fun to drive and looks incredible. Being named Car of the Year by The Sun is a fantastic recognition of that ambition and what Raval stands for.”

Since arriving in the UK in August 2026 – an occasion marked with a Chase and Status pop up in London’s Shoreditch – the CUPRA Raval has quickly established itself as a gamechanger. It was named Best Supermini at the Auto Express New Car Awards and secured international recognition with a Red Dot Award for Product Design.

The Sun Motors Awards’ top honour adds further weight to Raval’s growing momentum.

ENDS

Change needs drivers — and CUPRA believes real progress comes through radical disruption, by defying expectations and challenging conventions. Since its launch in 2018, the brand has transformed the automotive industry as an instigator of creativity and an agitator for change.

In just seven years, CUPRA has launched seven models and sold over 1 million vehicles globally. Every CUPRA model is restlessly expressive, design led, and performance driven. Its fully-fledged portfolio includes the CUPRA Ateca, the first car to ever feature the CUPRA badge; the CUPRA Leon, redesigned and enhanced as a standalone CUPRA model; the CUPRA Formentor, the first car to be developed exclusively by the brand and the company’s best-selling vehicle to date; the CUPRA Born, the brand’s first 100% electric vehicle; the CUPRA Tavascan, an all-electric SUV coupe; and the CUPRA Terramar, the brand’s sporty SUV. In 2026, the CUPRA Raval, the brand’s radical interpretation of the electric urban car, will join its lineup.

CUPRA is more than a car. It’s a conviction. The CUPRA Tribe is made up of a team of ambassadors who push back against convention and past the boundaries that hold others back, with members including Spain’s most decorated Olympian, Saúl Craviotto; film director J.A. Bayona; German goalkeeper Marc ter Stegen; and two-time Ballon d'Or and Best FIFA Award-winning footballer Alexia Putellas. Obsessive about elevating emotion on and off the road, CUPRA is also FC Barcelona's official automotive and mobility partner, the Premier Padel Tour's premium sponsor and is also proud to participate in the Formula E racing competition with Kiro Race Co.
