  • Citroën car and van registrations up 41% year-on-year at the end of September
  • Positive reaction to Citroën 2CV Concept at Paris Motor Show brings a buzz and feel-good factor to Citroën
  • Citroën’s indexed share of Google search increased 187% year-on-year

Citroën has struck a chord with the public following the reveal of the 2CV Concept at the 2026 Paris Motor Show earlier in October. New data from Citroën showed a significant increase in online interest in the brand following the return of one of motoring's most recognisable names.

The positive response comes during a strong year for Citroën in the UK, with year-to-date car and van sales up 41% year-on-year.

Far from being driven by nostalgia alone, the response highlighted how Citroën's modern interpretation of the 2CV has tapped into an appetite for cars that are simple, accessible and full of personality, bringing some much-needed joie de vivre back to the conversation around electric mobility.

The Citroën 2CV Concept is a fully electric reinvention of the original 2CV, previewing a production model due by 2028. The car is 3.76 metres long, with a weight of around one tonne allowing for a smaller battery.

In the period post Paris Motor Show, Citroën recorded an increase in indexed share of Google search of 187%. The public response has been mirrored by an overwhelmingly positive media reaction, with media describing the concept in terms including "cute", "friendly", "charm", "freedom" and "optimism".

The reaction reinforces the thinking behind the 2CV Concept. The objective was not to recreate the original car, but to reinvent the qualities that made it successful: simplicity, accessibility, practicality and freedom, translating them into an affordable electric car for a new generation.

Greg Taylor, Managing Director, Citroën UK, said: “We’re seeing real momentum behind Citroën. C3, C3 Aircross and C5 Aircross are winning over customers and helping drive sales up 41%, while the return of 2CV has brought an incredible new energy to the brand.”

“The reaction since Paris has been fantastic. It’s reminded people that Citroën can be clever and accessible, but also characterful, optimistic and fun for the family. That combination feels particularly powerful right now.”
