  • Alpine A290 named ‘Best Electric Hot Hatch’ in the EcoCar Electrified Top 50 Awards
  • Alpine’s first fully electric sports car also finishes sixth overall in the Electrified Top 50
  • Award recognises A290’s distinctive design, engineered agility and driver-focused electric performance
  • A290 is available in the UK from £30,245 on-the-road, including the £3,750 Electric Car Grant

The Alpine A290 has been named ‘Best Electric Hot Hatch’ in the EcoCar Electrified Top 50 Awards, while also securing sixth place overall in the publication’s ranking of the UK’s leading electrified cars.

The annual EcoCar Electrified Top 50 Awards celebrate the best electrified vehicles on sale in the UK, recognising the strongest electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models across every major market segment.

Highlighting the qualities that secured the A290’s category win, Ian Robertson, Editor and Publisher of EcoCar Magazine, said: “If you thought all EVs were dull, the Alpine A290 counters with serious kerb appeal and performance. Based on the Renault 5 platform but thoroughly reworked by Alpine's engineers, it bristles with bespoke bodywork, a tuned chassis and driving dynamics sharp enough to satisfy enthusiasts weaned on hot hatches of old. Our Best Electric Hot Hatch is genuinely exhilarating, yet comfortable enough for daily life. It's one of the most exciting cars on this list, full stop, and qualifies for the Government’s electric car grant.”

The Alpine A290 has been engineered around agility, precision and response. Its compact proportions, advanced chassis and driver-focused cockpit create a character that is unmistakably Alpine, while its five-door, five-seat layout and 326-litre boot give it the practicality required for everyday use.

With up to 220hp, 300Nm of torque and a 0-62mph time of 6.4 seconds, the A290 delivers electric performance with the immediacy and control expected of a true hot hatch. Its chassis tuning, multilink rear suspension, specialist Michelin tyres and Alpine Telemetrics technology all contribute to a driving experience shaped around involvement rather than outright numbers alone.

The A290 is available in GT+, GT Performance+ and GTS+ versions, priced from £30,245 on-the-road including the £3,750 Electric Car Grant. All versions combine a 52kWh battery with compact electric performance, while GT Performance+ and GTS+ bring the full 220hp output for drivers seeking the sharpest expression of Alpine’s electric hot hatch.

Nic Burnside, Brand Director, Alpine UK, said: “A290 is a decisive car for Alpine because it proves that electrification can intensify the qualities that define the brand: agility, precision and driving pleasure. To see it recognised as Best Electric Hot Hatch and placed so strongly in the overall Electrified Top 50 is a powerful endorsement of the engineering focus behind the car, and of Alpine’s ability to bring its racing spirit into a new electric era.”
