Almost a decade after its unveiling, the Alpine A110 remains a benchmark for pure driving pleasure, securing the title of ‘Best Used Sports Car’ at the Auto Express Used Car Awards 2026.
The prestigious accolade recognises the enduring appeal of a sports car that has consistently challenged convention with its lightweight construction, exceptional agility and uniquely rewarding driving experience.
It also arrives at a defining moment in the model’s history, with production of the current generation now complete as Alpine prepares for its electric successor.
Explaining why the A110 remains such a compelling sports car, Richard Ingram, Deputy Editor, Auto Express, said: “On paper, the Alpine A110 might not sound all that explosive, but weighing just over a tonne, it doesn’t need to be powerful to go fast. It’s enormously satisfying to drive, and relatively easy to live with if you go for the Legende with its rear parking camera and parking sensors.”
A BENCHMARK FOR DRIVING PLEASURE
Since its introduction, the A110 has stood apart from its competitors through a philosophy that prioritises lightness, balance and agility over outright power. Its aluminium construction, compact dimensions, mid-mounted 1.8-litre turbocharged engine and sophisticated double-wishbone suspension deliver a driving experience defined by precision, responsiveness and exceptional feedback.
The award also reinforces the A110’s growing appeal as a modern classic. Production of the second-generation model concluded at the Manufacture Alpine Dieppe Jean Rédélé in July 2026, with 28,701 examples built since 2017. Combining distinctive engineering, timeless design and limited production, the A110 has already established itself as one of the most significant enthusiast sports cars of its generation.
Nic Burnside, Alpine Brand Director for the UK, said: “The A110 has always represented something special in the world of sports cars. Nearly a decade after its unveiling, its combination of lightness, agility and pure driving pleasure remains as compelling as ever, and this award demonstrates just how highly it continues to be regarded. As we look ahead to the next generation, our commitment to the principles that have made the A110 so exceptional remains unchanged, as we embrace an exciting new era of electric performance.”
Developed around the new Alpine Performance Platform (APP), the third-generation A110 will carry forward the brand’s defining principles of lightness, agility and driver engagement, opening a new chapter in a story that began more than 60 years ago.
