  • Birdsong blind spot monitor uses a cheerful chirping in addition to regular warning light
  • Swift response to dangers without ruffling feathers
  • Upgrade is free for anyone with a Canary yellow Volkswagen T-Roc

Milton Keynes – The new T-Roc is the first Volkswagen that can be programmed with a chirpy new safety option: the Canary-Assist blind spot monitor. It adds a cheerful chirping sound alongside the existing warning light, on the door mirror, to warn drivers if they are about to steer into the path of a vehicle approaching from behind.

This newly hatched safety feature is also one of Volkswagen’s cheepest optional extras. In fact, it’s free to anyone with a new T-Roc in vibrant Canary yellow – customers just need to ask for option code 04.f001. Any Volkswagen Retailer can then use cloud-based software to migrate cars to the new Canary-Assist feature.

“Most drivers consider themselves to be eagle-eyed, but nobody can match modern electronics when it comes to spotting dangers,” said Chris Starling, Product Marketing Manager at Volkswagen UK. “Our new Canary-Assist blind spot monitor gives drivers a swift response to potential hazards, so they can avoid ruffling the feathers of other motorists.”

Volkswagen Canary-Assist is available from 1 April.

The new Volkswagen T-Roc is available to order now in a range of stylish and bold, single- and two-tone colours, including Celestial blue, Flame red and Canary yellow.

About the Volkswagen brand:
A total of 178,607 new Volkswagen passenger vehicles were registered in the UK in 2025, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). This equated to a market share of 8.84 per cent – ahead of the brand’s market share in 2024 (8.52 per cent) – and made Volkswagen the UK’s best-selling new-car brand for the fifth year running.

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand has a global presence, producing vehicles at 28 locations in 12 countries, and employs 170,000 people. In 2025, Volkswagen delivered around 4.7 million vehicles worldwide. These included bestsellers such as the Polo, T-Roc, T-Cross, Golf, Tiguan and Passat, as well as the successful all-electric ID. models. Volkswagen handed over about 382,000 all-electric vehicles to customers worldwide in 2025 and, with its BOOST 2030 strategy, it is consistently driving forward its development into the most desirable brand for sustainable mobility.
