Vauxhall Mokka GSE Rally driver Ioan Lloyd remains firmly in contention for the 2026 ADAC GSE Rally Cup title after finishing fourth at the Sanremo Rally in Italy, the fifth round of the all-electric series.
Lloyd and co-driver Sion Williams recovered from a puncture on the opening stage to challenge for a podium finish, ultimately missing out by just 0.9 seconds to Spanish duo Alex Español and Enrique Velasco on the final special stage.
The result leaves Lloyd second in the championship standings with 133 points, just three behind leader Timo Schulz. With two rounds remaining, third-placed Tom Dufour is only two points behind Lloyd, keeping the title fight wide open.
The Sanremo Rally marked the ADAC GSE Rally Cup’s first visit to Italy, bringing the all-electric series to one of international rallying’s most iconic events. First held in 1928, the rally featured eight special stages covering 70 miles, with narrow, twisting mountain roads demanding precision from drivers throughout the weekend.
Ioan Lloyd, Vauxhall GSE Rally Driver, said: “It was a real pleasure to compete on such an iconic rally. We made some positive progress with the car and, despite a puncture on the opening stage that put us on the back foot, we fought to put ourselves back in contention. It was frustrating to miss out on the podium by just 0.9 seconds, but we take valuable championship points and plenty of positives into the final two rounds.”
Jörg Schrott, Opel-Vauxhall Motorsport Director, said: “You can feel the tradition and the special atmosphere of this rally in every single second. For our young teams, the start in Sanremo was a special experience. Hardly any other rally in Europe offers such challenging, yet at the same time stunningly beautiful special stages. The Mokka GSE Rally really showed its strengths on these narrow, twisty special stages. And in sporting terms, the battle for the top leaves nothing to be desired. I’m looking forward to the final two rounds of the season.”
The ADAC GSE Rally Cup returns in two weeks for the penultimate round of the season at the ADAC Saarland-Palatinate Rally in Germany.
