Subaru announces maximum five-star Euro NCAP safety test ratings for new Subaru Uncharted and E-Outback electric vehicles

- Subaru E-Outback scores 89% for driver and passenger safety and 85% for child occupant safety, with maximum marks awarded for adult rear impact tests and crash test performance based on six and ten-year old children
- Subaru Uncharted achieves 88% for driver and passenger safety and 85% for child occupant safety, with full marks for adult rear impact tests and child seat installation check
- Both new Subaru models due as UK versions, adding two fully-electric vehicles to Subaru’s existing hybrid vehicle line-up
02 June 2026 – Subaru UK and Ireland announces both the new Subaru Uncharted and E-Outback electric vehicles have achieved the maximum five-star overall rating in the 2026 European New Car assessment Programme (Euro NCAP).
Both the Subaru E-Outback and Uncharted registered scores in all four assessment areas: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road Users and Safety Assist that stand above the minimum threshold required.
Tests referencing the Subaru E-Outback showed that the passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of both driver and front seat passenger. Subaru showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions, and protection was good for all critical body areas of the front passenger.
In the side barrier test, the car provided good protection to all critical body areas and scored maximum points. The airbag performed well in the Euro NCAP tests with dummy readings indicating good protection for both the driver and passenger. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision, as did a geometric analysis of the rear seats.
In the side barrier impact, protection of all critical parts of the body was good for both the six and ten-year old dummies, and the front passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be used in that seating position.
The performance of the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system was good in tests of its reaction to other vehicles. The car has a direct driver status monitoring system as standard, detecting driver fatigue. The lane support system gently corrects the vehicle’s path if it is drifting out of lane and also intervenes in some more critical situations.

Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and the front seat passenger. It was shown that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions. Protection was good for all critical body areas of the front passenger while in the side barrier test, the car provided good protection to all critical body areas and scored maximum points.

Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear end collision, and a geometric analysis of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection.
In the frontal offset test, protection of the six-year old dummy was good for all critical body areas and good or adequate for the ten-year dummy. In the side barrier impact, protection of all critical parts of the body was good for both six and ten-year dummies. The front passenger airbag in the Uncharted can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be used in that seating position.
The autonomous emergency braking system of the Subaru Uncharted responds to vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, as well as to other vehicles.
