The new Renault Twingo E-Tech electric has been named ‘Value Car of the Year’ at the 2026 News UK Motor Awards, with judges praising its accessible pricing and just how much clever thinking, quality and character Renault has packed into it.
The annual News UK Motor Awards celebrate standout new cars from across the market, bringing together motoring expertise from The Sun, The Times, The Sunday Times and LUXX. For Twingo E-Tech electric, the award adds to a growing trophy cabinet before the all-electric city car has even gone on general sale in the UK.
Explaining the judges’ decision, Will Dron, Digital Driving Editor at The Times, said: “The new Twingo follows the excellent Renault 5 and Renault 4 in capturing the spirit of a beloved classic, and without doubt the superbly-realised retro design is a large part of its appeal. But we were also so impressed with the clever packaging and attention to detail throughout. It's a joyful car of unexpectedly high quality at a truly accessible price.”
Writing in The Sun after driving the new Twingo, Rob Gill, Motors Editor, added: “Someone’s been really clever and creative designing this cheery car to a cost. It’s light, fun and easy to drive, and puts a smile on your face.”
Affectionately known as ‘Le Frog’, Twingo E-Tech electric puts a fresh electric twist on the playful spirit of the original, combining it with a target price of under £20,000.
At just 3.79 metres long it is built for the city, but its compact footprint hides a surprisingly versatile interior, with five doors, independently sliding and folding rear seats and up to 360 litres of boot space.
A 27.5kWh LFP battery and 60kW electric motor deliver a targeted WLTP driving range of up to 163 miles, while available technology includes openR link with Google built-in, One Pedal driving and up to 24 advanced driver-assistance systems.
Adam Wood, Managing Director, Renault UK, said: “Twingo is the small car that thinks big, matching its huge character with lots of style, technology and usability. Add in its target cost of under £20,000 and, as this award recognises, it offers a clever package that is simply unrivalled at this price point. Making electric cars more accessible shouldn’t mean taking the joy out of them, and Twingo shows you can keep the price low and still dial up the fun factor.”
Customers keen to get to the front of the queue can already purchase a Twingo R Pass for £100, giving them priority access before general ordering opens. R Pass customers also receive exclusive updates and previews, a 1:43 scale Twingo model and a distinctive green hands-free key card holder.
