Porsche Brand Ambassador Paul Casey claims strong runner-up finish at the Omega European Masters

The Porsche Brand Ambassador was beaten by South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence only on the fourth extra hole of a sudden-death play-off. After 72 holes at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, both players were tied at 18 under par on a total of 262 strokes. For Casey, finishing second in Crans-Montana was a particularly meaningful result. The 49-year-old has lived in Switzerland for some time and has a long personal connection with the Omega European Masters, having finished third at the tournament in 2005.
“This second place means a great deal to me. I now live in Switzerland on Lake Zug and feel very much at home here. The Omega European Masters in Crans-Montana with Porsche as car partner is therefore a home event for me, which makes returning to the podium after 21 years all the more special,” says Paul Casey. “I am very proud of my performance and of having fought for the title right down to the final shot.”
Casey donates prize money to those affected by the fire tragedy
Alongside his sporting performance, Casey sent a personal message of support to the region in the canton of Valais. Before the final round, he had already announced that he would donate his entire prize money to Fondation Beloved. The foundation supports people affected by the fire tragedy in Crans-Montana. The prize money for second place at the 79th edition of the Omega European Masters amounted to around USD 412,000.
A special connection
The Omega European Masters is one of the most historic and prestigious tournaments on the DP World Tour. Its history dates back to 1923, and since the establishment of the European Tour in 1971 it has been a permanent fixture on the tour calendar.
Porsche Switzerland has enjoyed a close partnership with the Omega European Masters since 2019. For the seventh consecutive year, the sports car manufacturer was the event’s main sponsor and official vehicle partner. Casey’s podium finish and his exchange with Porsche customers during the tournament week added a special sporting highlight to this long-standing association.
“We warmly congratulate Paul on this outstanding result. Finishing second at the Omega European Masters is an excellent achievement and once again demonstrates the high level at which he continues to play,” says Holger Gerrmann, CEO of Porsche Switzerland AG. “We are especially touched by Paul’s decision to donate his entire prize money to those affected by the fire tragedy. It is a generous and deeply personal gesture, and one we greatly admire.”
