Maserati GT2 Claims Double Victory in GT America Racing Debut at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

The Trident, with Risi Competizione and Peter Dempsey,
secures two overall victories and Sunday pole position in the SRO3 class at the season finale of the 2026 GT America powered by AWS
Indianapolis, October 12, 2026 – The Maserati GT2 celebrated its racing debut in the GT America powered by AWS with two overall victories at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Fielded by Risi Competizione and driven by Peter Dempsey, the No. 100 car won both 40-minute races on Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11. The Maserati GT2 was eligible to compete in the SRO3 class thanks to the GT2+ kit, a package that enables the car to race alongside GT3 models.
These results marked a winning return to racing at the legendary Brickyard, where Wilbur Shaw drove a Maserati 8CTF to back-to-back Indy 500 victories in 1939 and 1940, with Maserati still remaining the only Italian brand to have won the race. Following the GT2’s static display at Indianapolis in 2025, this year’s competitive debut carried added significance: the No. 100 celebrated the centenary of both the iconic Trident logo and Maserati’s racing debut.
In Race 1, Dempsey started from the back of the grid after his fastest time in Friday’s qualifiers was disallowed. Despite the setback, the Irish driver worked his way through the field, eventually overtaking 2026 SRO3 champion Memo Gidley with less than three minutes remaining. He held on to win by 0.307 seconds and clocked the fastest lap, securing pole position for Race 2.
On Sunday, Dempsey converted pole position into a second win, leading from start to finish and crossing the line 2.702 seconds ahead of Gidley. He also set the fastest lap, completing a weekend blitz for Maserati and Risi Competizione.
Developed in conjunction with SRO, the GT2+ Kit makes Maserati GT2 eligible for the SRO3 class in GT America powered by AWS, allowing it to compete alongside GT3 cars. The package increases downforce and power through aerodynamic updates and a revised Nettuno engine calibration, with adaptations to the dampers and braking system. Customers can order the kit with a new GT2 or purchase it separately for conversion of an existing car.
The broader Maserati GT2 platform is eligible for more than 20 racing series across five continents. Maserati is working with promoters in the United States and Europe to extend eligibility for the GT2+ kit to additional championships, with plans for dedicated trackside technical support and an on-site spare parts service. The victories in Indianapolis follow Philippe Prette taking his third title running in the GT2 European Series, after his Am class triumphs in 2024 and 2025 at the wheel of an LP Racing Maserati GT2, in a category now known as the Masters Cup.
Vincent Biard, Head of Maserati Corse, stated: “To win both races on our GT America debut at Indianapolis is a proud moment for everyone at Maserati. Peter and our partner Risi Competizione delivered an exceptional performance, and these results demonstrate the potential of our Maserati GT2. Returning to this circuit as we celebrate 100 years of both the Trident logo and Maserati’s racing debut makes this achievement especially meaningful. We want to give our customers more opportunities to race with Maserati, and this weekend is a critical step in that direction.”
Maserati also engaged race fans through on-site activities supported by its dealer partner, Napleton Maserati of Downers Grove. The Fan Zone display featured the GT2 Stradale, GranTurismo Trofeo, and Grecale Trofeo, linking the weekend’s racing successes to Maserati’s line-up of road cars.
