LEAPMOTOR UNVEILS NEXT-GENERATION VEHICLE ARCHITECTURE & BATTERY TECHNOLOGY AT TECH DAY 2026

- Leapmotor unveils new technologies set to underpin next-generation models from 2027
- New LEAP 5.0 architecture: brings game-changing benefits to cabin packaging and on-board experience
- New 48-volt electrical system reduces wiring-harness weight by up to 50%
- New CTC 3.0: Latest Cell-To-Chassis system for the first time integrates low-voltage functions into the main battery pack, removing the need for a separate 12-volt battery with benefits to weight, materials, packaging and reliability
- Unique integrated battery system reduces material use and weight with benefits to packaging, maintenance, cost and reliability
Leapmotor has unveiled two major new innovations at its 2026 Leapmotor Tech Day, held recently at its state-of-the-art Hu Zhou Battery facility, Hangzhou.
Leapmotor launched its purpose-built new physical hardware, LEAP 5.0 New Mobile Space Architecture and the latest generation of its pioneering battery cell technology, Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) 3.0 High-Low Fusion Battery, both designed to underpin the next generation of products launched from 2027 onwards.
These technologies demonstrate Leapmotor’s goal to revolutionise the fundamental experience of mobility, a leap that is comparable as the move from traditional mobile phones to smartphones.
LEAP 5.0 New Mobile Space Architecture
LEAP 5.0 New Mobile Space Architecture is designed to make future Leapmotor models more space-efficient and intelligent, while expanding what the vehicle interior can offer.
Key features include:
- Centralised vehicle control: A centrally integrated control system supports the requirements of electrified vehicles and autonomous driving technologies.
- 48-volt electrical system: Reduces vehicle wiring to under 500 metres and cuts wiring-harness weight by up to 50%.
- Integrated air conditioning and powertrain: Combining the all-in-one air conditioning unit with the rear-mounted powertrain increases cabin length by 19%, providing an additional 700mm of space. It also reduces the number of parts by 18% and piping requirements by 30%.
- Vertical shock absorber layout: A compact design incorporating an aluminium tower minimises cabin intrusion and increases front-row lateral legroom by 37.5%.
- Higher roof and fully flat floor: A new skateboard design increases interior height by 63.7%, approximately 70mm, creating an open, loft-style cabin with full standing height.
Cell-to-Chassis 3.0 High-Low Fusion Battery in detail
Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) 3.0 High-Low Fusion Battery is the latest generation of Leapmotor’s pioneering package-less battery and power-supply system. It integrates the vehicle’s high- and low-voltage functions within the main battery pack, removing the need for a standalone auxiliary battery. Future Leapmotor models featuring the technology are set to become the first mass-produced road-going vehicles in more than 70 years to operate without one.
Key features include:
- No separate 12-volt battery: Power from the main high-voltage battery is converted to supply the vehicle’s low-voltage systems.
- Unified battery management: Standardised cells, shared thermal management, and energy distribution are controlled through a single battery-management system.
- Essential reserve power: When the displayed state of charge reaches zero, the high-voltage battery retains a small reserve for functions including switching the vehicle on and off and controlling the central locking.
- Reduced waste: Large-scale deployment could remove the need for millions of lead-acid batteries annually, reducing battery-related pollution and waste.
- Increased efficiency: removing 12-volt battery saves weight and improves vehicle packaging
- Maintenance-free operation: Eliminating the auxiliary battery removes the need for periodic replacement, reducing maintenance requirements and costs over the vehicle’s lifetime as well as enhancing reliability.
Together, LEAP 5.0 and CTC 3.0 represent the next stage of Leapmotor’s in-house technology development, creating more spacious, efficient, and simplified electric vehicles. The first models to feature the new technologies will be launched in 2027, with the technology available across Leapmotor’s global markets.
