Cutting-edge powertrain technology

Combining electric vehicle performance and driving experience with virtually limitless range and reduced refuelling times, the Leapmotor C10 Range Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) is the perfect choice for users who often drive long distances yet still want to enjoy the benefits and positive environmental impact of electric propulsion.

The C10 REEV operates primarily as an electric vehicle, with an electric motor driving the wheels. When the battery charge gets low, the internal combustion engine (ICE) generates electricity, recharging the battery only and extending the driving range.

This system allows the C10 REEV to offer the smooth, quiet, and responsive driving experience of an electric vehicle, while also providing the flexibility of a traditional combustion engine for longer trips, with a theoretical combined range of over 600 miles

Range-extending powertrain

At the heart of the C10 REEV is a rear-mounted 158kW (215hp) electric motor that drives the rear wheels and is powered by a 28.4kWh battery. This configuration provides an impressive, efficient all-electric range of 90 miles.

In addition, the C10 REEV features a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that’s located under the bonnet. This highly efficient unit is not connected to the road wheels but instead drives a state-of-the-art generator that keeps the battery in an optimum state of charge to power the electric motor.

By being directly coupled to the engine, the generator design helps reduce weight by 8kg compared to rival range-extenders. It achieves this saving by eliminating the use of unnecessary flywheels and torsional dampers.

Thanks to an eight-layer flat wire hairpin winding solution, the generator achieves 96.5% efficiency for an industry-leading figure of 0.3L/kWh. By matching the generator efficiency to the engine’s optimal performance, the C10 REEV offers the lowest possible fuel consumption and the highest possible energy conversion.

As a result of these technologies, the C10 REEV achieves an impressive WLTP fuel efficiency figure of 706.2mpg and C02 emissions of just 38g/km. Using a combination of electric and petrol, the C10 can travel up to 603 miles between recharging or refuelling stops.

Beyond efficiency, NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) performance has also been prioritised, ensuring a smooth and refined driving experience. The 1.5-litre engine’s block is designed with high rigidity to minimise vibrations, while the addition of a damping pulley system further enhances quietness.

Energy modes and charging

Drivers can tailor the powertrain characteristics to their preferences and requirements by choosing from a number of energy modes. Accessed through a shortcut on the 14.6-inch central touchscreen, each one prioritises energy, performance or efficiency.

  • EV+: In this mode, the powertrain always prioritises the electric motor, and the range extender generator will not intervene until the battery SoC (State of Charge) is below 9%
  • EV: This setting also prioritises the electric motor, but in this instance, the range extender will start to work intelligently (according to speed, power demands and driving characteristics) when SoC is below 25%
  • Power+: When this mode is selected, the range extender engine will always be on, delivering maximum power for more dynamic driving
  • Fuel: This mode provides full EV driving when the battery is above 80%. When the SoC drops below this level, the system will start to work intelligently, starting the range extender generator when extra power is needed or when the SoC needs to be maintained
  • Save: A separate button on the display, which allows drivers to customise the range extender starting point, tailoring the SoC (anything between 30% ~ 80%) at which the engine and generator begin to work.

One of the innovative elements of the C10’s powertrain is its energy recovery system, which includes regenerative braking that harvests energy and feeds it back into the battery.

Drivers can choose from four different regenerative braking settings, each one offering gradually increased stopping power, up to and including a ‘one pedal’ mode. In this configuration, the C10 can effectively be brought to a quick and smooth stop without using the brake pedal.

There’s also a ‘freewheeling’ function designed to maximise energy efficiency and higher cruising speeds. Simply lift off the accelerator on flat or downhill sections, and the C10 automatically disengages its motor, allowing the car to use its momentum to maintain speed without using energy.

The C10 REEV supports both AC fast and DC rapid charging, allowing it to add significant range in a short amount of time, making it convenient for long trips. With a DC rapid charging rate of 65kW, the C10’s battery charge can be increased from 30% to 80% in just 18 minutes.

With a 6.6kW onboard charger, the C10 REEV can also be charged at home, with a full charge using a domestic charger taking four and a half hours.

Comprehensive driver modes

The C10 REEV is available with three distinct driver modes, each tailored to match the needs of the driver and prevailing road conditions. Accessed through the central infotainment screen, users can pick from:

  • Eco: This mode optimises regenerative braking that harvests energy and feeds it back into the battery, plus it provides smoother power response for enhanced comfort and lower energy use. Finally, the steering is in its lightest setting to create a more relaxed experience, especially in city situations
  • Sport: Designed for use on faster roads, this setting delivers a quicker reaction to accelerator pedal applications, high regenerative braking and greater steering weight for enhanced accuracy and driver engagement.
  • Standard: Offering a balance between the two, this setting is designed for everyday use where comfort and smoothness are required. With very little regenerative braking, lighter steering and a natural accelerator response. This is the C10’s default driver mode.

Drivers can also customise the driver modes to suit their preferences, with the option of three distinct powertrain and steering settings. For the motor, there’s the choice of:

  • Smooth: The accelerator response is gradual, making it a great choice for stop-start city traffic.
  • Robust: Delivers a much quicker response to the accelerator and has been tuned for enthusiastic driving.
  • Stable: Offers an experience that’s perfectly balanced between the two.

For the C10’s electrically powered assisted steering, users can choose from:

  • Comfort: Tailored for city use, with fingertip lightness taking the strain out of tight junctions and parking manoeuvres.
  • Sport: Provides greater weighting and driver feedback for making it perfectly suited for more spirited driving on faster roads.
  • Standard: Weighted for everyday use, the steering is optimised to give sufficient road feedback for an engaging drive, whilst still being light enough to make low-speed manoeuvres.

Using advanced artificial intelligence algorithms, the C10 can also learn the user’s driving habits, allowing it to constantly improve the software strategies to optimise vehicle performance. By constantly monitoring driving style and use cycles, the C10’s advanced systems help ensure that the driver is always perfectly in tune with their car.

Cell-to-Chassis technology and Leap 3.0

The C10 REEV has been developed using Leapmotor’s advanced Cell-to-Chassis technology, which integrates the 28.4kWh battery into the structure of the vehicle. One of the major benefits of this approach is superior packaging and space efficiency. For its exterior size, the C10 delivers an exceptionally roomy interior, while the addition of a completely flat floor area boosts versatility and comfort.

This approach helps deliver exceptional torsional rigidity of 42,500 Nm/degrees, which results in an extremely strong structure. Not only does this result in exceptional safety and impact resistance, but it also provides even more precise handling and excellent ride comfort. Furthermore, by making the battery part of the floor structure, engineers have been able to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible for superior stability.

Cell-to-Chassis is an integral part of the state-of-the-art Leap 3.0 centralised electronic and electrical architecture, its ‘Four-Leaf Clover’ design allowing for the perfect coordination and greatest efficiency between all the main components of intelligent electric vehicles. Part of the brand’s ‘full-stack development’, it allows Leapmotor to build essential vehicle systems such as powertrain, intelligent driving, and cockpit systems from the ground up, enabling complete in-house development of both software and hardware.

Exterior design

Measuring 4,739mm in length, width of 1,900mm, height of 1,680mm, and a wheelbase of 2,825mm, the C10 REEV is a large D-segment SUV that combines plenty of interior space with a solid and robust sporty exterior design. With its raised bonnet line, dumbbell-shaped grille and bold headlamps with ultrabright LED lighting technology, the C10 has a powerful and instantly recognisable look.

The three parallel lines that are sculpted into the sides of the C10 create a strong impression of strength and stability, while the waistline sports a muscular and full shape that adds to the car's imposing aesthetic. The entire design is further amplified by the neatly squared wheel arches.

The enhanced ground clearance contributes to stability and safety on all kinds of terrain, and in combination with the standard roof bars, these elements enhance the vehicle’s adventurous spirit. Finally, the flush door handles and the ‘shark fin’ antenna provide a modern and aerodynamic touch to the design.

All versions of the C10 come as standard with 20-inch alloy wheels that feature a distinctive dark metallic grey finish, while customers can choose from five eye-catching exterior colours. Glazed Green (pearlescent) paint is the no-cost option, while Pearly White (Pearlescent), Tundra Grey (Solid), Canopy Grey (Pearlescent) and Metallic Black (Pearlescent) are optional.

Interior design

With a focus on attention to detail and sustainability, the C10 REEV’s interior has been designed to combine elegance, technology and functionality without compromise. High-quality materials are used throughout, delivering an exceptional premium experience.

The interior of the C10 makes extensive use of sustainable materials that help reduce carbon emissions by 30% during production. By combining this environmental awareness with an intuitive aesthetic, the C10 was awarded the prestigious ‘International CMF Design Award 2023’.

One of the most refined elements of the C10’s interior is the concealed electric air vent, which creates a modern and uncluttered environment. A high-quality finish and premium materials contribute to the feeling of relaxation, while the multi-mode ambient lighting brings a customisable and immersive sensory experience.

There’s also a 2.1m2 panoramic sunroof that floods the interiors with natural light, enhancing both well-being and the driving experience. A powered sunshade ensures the interior remains cool during the summer months.

An automatic dual-zone climate control heating and ventilation system is standard on the C10, helping ensure occupants are comfortable regardless of the conditions outside. Also included is an efficient heat pump, which keeps the cabin warm by using heat from the battery that would otherwise be wasted. Not only does this allow the interior to warm quickly, but it’s also extremely efficient, as unlike standard heaters, it requires a lot less energy and so does not have a significant impact on battery range.

Elsewhere, the ECO leather seats also feature a seven-layer construction and are dressed in bamboo charcoal upholstery, combining exceptional comfort with sustainable materials that help to remove harmful gases and reduce odours – these have been independently certified by OEKO-TEX*.

A calm and quiet environment

The attention to detail extends to the C10 REEV’s soundproofing, rivalling that of top-of-the-range luxury cars. Thanks to the precise acoustic optimisation, which reduces rolling and aerodynamic sound, the C10 offers exceptional refinement and relaxation on the move. Refinement is further enhanced by aerodynamic additions (the smooth undertray, flat battery pack, and the front and rear wheel ‘air curtains’) that contribute to reducing air resistance and outside noise.

Even the windscreen has been designed to dampen noise. The car windows also gradually slow down at the upper and lower endpoints while maintaining a uniform speed during the intermediate process, further reducing the noise.

Exceptional practicality

Practical touches include the spacious armrest box between the front seats, ideal for storing small objects or charging portable electronic devices. By locating the drive selector on the steering column, designers have also created extra storage space and conveniently placed cupholders between the front seats.

There is a generous 400-litre boot capacity. It can be extended to a cavernous 1,375 litres with the rear seats folded flat. Furthermore, the interior space is highly flexible, allowing for numerous seat configurations to offer different setups based on one’s needs. Moreover, the C10 REEV features 26 storage spaces, 10 in the first row, 10 in the second row, and six in the boot, ensuring that customers will never have to leave any possessions behind.
