A new kind of hybrid: always electric, with support when needed

Leapmotor’s Hybrid EV architecture reimagines the hybrid concept by placing electric drive at its core and delivering a genuinely 100% electric driving experience:  the wheels are powered solely by the electric motor – unlike traditional hybrids, where the engine often contributes to propulsion – and the compact range extender engages only to produce electricity and recharge the battery when necessary.

Combining the performance and driving experience of an electric vehicle with virtually limitless range and reduced refuelling times, the Leapmotor B10 Hybrid EV is the perfect choice for users who often drive long distances yet still want to enjoy the benefits and positive environmental impact of electric propulsion.

As an EV brand, Leapmotor has used its extensive expertise and knowledge in the development of the B10 Hybrid EV, which drives and feels like an electric vehicle yet can use the internal combustion engine (ICE) generator to recharge the battery and extend the driving range to a combined 559 miles (WLTP).

Thanks to this technology, the B10 Hybrid EV offers a consistently pure electric feel and allows for longer journeys without dependence on frequent charging. Drivers enjoy smooth, silent performance, instant torque, and seamless acceleration without gear shifts, with energy management handled seamlessly with no action required from the driver.

In essence, the system is defined by three core principles:

  • The electric motor always drives the wheels.
  • The range extender is never mechanically connected to the wheels.
  • Its function is to generate electricity during driving.

Range-extending powertrain

At the heart of the B10 Hybrid EV is the same rear-mounted 160kW (218hp) electric motor as the BEV model. Driving the rear wheels, it’s powered by an 18.8kWh LFP battery that gives an impressive, efficient all-electric range of 50 miles (WLTP).

In addition, the B10 Hybrid EV features a highly efficient 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that’s located under the bonnet. This compact unit is not connected to the road wheels. Instead, it drives a state-of-the-art 50kW generator ensures the battery remains in an optimum state of charge to power the electric motor.

By being directly coupled to the engine, the generator design helps reduce weight by 8kg compared to rival range-extending hybrids. It achieves this saving by eliminating the use of unnecessary flywheels and torsional dampers.

Thanks to an eight-layer flat wire hairpin winding solution, the generator achieves 96.5% efficiency for an industry-leading figure of 0.3L/kWh. By matching the generator efficiency to the engine’s optimal performance, the B10 Hybrid EV offers the lowest possible fuel consumption and the highest possible energy conversion.

As a result of these technologies, the B10 Hybrid EV achieves an impressive WLTP fuel efficiency figure of 108.6mpg and C02 emissions of just 54g/km. Using a combination of electric and petrol energy, the B10 can travel up to 559 miles between recharging and refuelling stops.

Beyond efficiency, NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) performance has also been prioritised, ensuring a smooth and refined driving experience. The 1.5-litre engine’s block is designed with high rigidity to minimise vibrations, while the addition of a damping pulley system further enhances quietness.

Powered by a highly efficient 215hp rear-mounted motor, it delivers a 0-62mph time of 8.5 seconds and a 105mph top speed.

Energy modes and charging

Drivers can tailor the powertrain characteristics to their preferences and requirements by choosing from several adaptive energy modes. Accessed through a shortcut on the 14.6-inch central touchscreen, each one prioritises energy, performance or efficiency.

  • EV+: In this mode, the powertrain always prioritises the electric motor, and the range extender generator will not intervene until the battery SoC (State of Charge) is below 9%
  • EV: This setting also prioritises the electric motor, but in this instance, the range extender will start to work intelligently (according to speed, power demands and driving characteristics) when SoC is below 25%
  • Power+: When this mode is selected, the range extender engine will always be on, delivering maximum power for more dynamic driving
  • Fuel: This mode provides full EV driving when the battery is above 80%. When the SoC drops below this level, the system will start to work intelligently, starting the range extender generator when extra power is needed or when the SoC needs to be maintained

One of the innovative elements of the B10’s powertrain is its energy recovery system, which includes regenerative braking that harvests energy and feeds it back into the battery.

Drivers can choose from four different regenerative braking settings, each one offering gradually increased stopping power, up to and including a ‘one pedal’ mode. In this configuration, the B10 can effectively be brought to a quick and smooth stop without using the brake pedal.

There’s also a ‘freewheeling’ function designed to maximise energy efficiency and higher cruising speeds. Simply lift off the accelerator on flat or downhill sections, and the B10 Hybrid EV automatically disengages its motor, allowing the car to use its momentum to maintain speed without using energy.

The B10 Hybrid EV’s battery system is designed to charge quickly, so you spend less time plugged in and more time on the road. With a maximum charging speed of 46kW (DC), the battery can be recharged from 30% to 80% capacity in just 30 minutes, making it perfect for quick stops.

With a 6.6kW onboard AC charger, the B10 Hybrid EV can also be charged using a domestic wallbox from 30% to 80% in 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Reliability in all conditions was a key development target for the B10 Hybrid EV; therefore, the battery delivers strong charging performance even in cold temperatures. The specially developed cells and control software also preserve both range and power in all driving conditions.

Comprehensive driver modes

The B10 Hybrid EV is available with three distinct driver modes, each tailored to match the needs of the driver and prevailing road conditions. Accessed through the central infotainment screen, users can pick from:

  • Eco: This mode optimises regenerative braking to harvest energy and feed it back into the battery, plus it provides a smoother power response for enhanced comfort and lower energy use. Finally, the steering is in its lightest setting to create a more relaxed experience, especially in city situations
  • Sport: Designed for use on faster roads, this setting delivers a quicker throttle response, high regenerative braking, and greater steering weight for enhanced accuracy and driver engagement.
  • Standard: Offering a balance between the two, this setting is designed for everyday use where comfort and efficiency are required. With very little regenerative braking, lighter steering and a natural accelerator response. This is the B10’s default driver mode.

Drivers can also customise the driver modes to suit their preferences, with the option of three distinct powertrain and steering settings. For the motor, there’s the choice of:

  • Smooth: The accelerator response is gradual, making it a great choice for stop-start city traffic.
  • Robust: Delivers a much quicker response to the accelerator and has been tuned for enthusiastic driving.
  • Stable: Offers an experience that’s perfectly balanced between the two.

For the B10 Hybrid EV’s electrically power-assisted steering, users can choose from:

  • Comfort: Tailored for city use, with fingertip lightness taking the strain out of tight junctions and parking manoeuvres.
  • Sport: Provides greater weighting and driver feedback for making it perfectly suited for more spirited driving on faster roads.
  • Standard: Weighted for everyday use, the steering is optimised to give sufficient road feedback for an engaging drive, whilst still being light enough to make low-speed manoeuvres.

Using advanced artificial intelligence algorithms, the B10 Hybrid EV can also learn the user’s driving habits, allowing it to constantly adapt the software to optimise vehicle performance. By constantly monitoring driving style and use cycles, the B10 Hybrid EV’s advanced systems help ensure that the driver is always perfectly in tune with their car.

Exterior Design

The Leapmotor B10 Hybrid EV is a compact C-segment SUV that redefines expectations of accessible innovation, contemporary style, versatility, and advanced technology for the modern, tech-savvy driver. The winner of a coveted 2024 CMF Design Award, the B10 offers a refined expression of youthful energy and brings together sleek curves and dynamic lines for a bold yet contemporary look.

The B10 Hybrid EV shares the same compact dimensions of the EV model, measuring 4,515mm in length, 1,885mm wide, 1,655mm tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,735mm. It makes the B10 Hybrid EV the ideal size for city commutes, yet the interior is spacious enough for trips away with family or friends. The front of the B10 creates a powerful fusion of energy and motion that integrates advanced technology, including the incredibly slimline LED automatic headlights – with ‘Wing Star’ lighting signature – and the prominent, raised bonnet line.

Each side of the B10 Hybrid EV is sculpted by two sleek, dynamic lines that structure the profile to emphasise movement and strength, while the flush-fitting door handles seamlessly integrate with the car body, enhancing modernity while reducing aerodynamic drag. All B10 models feature 18-inch alloy wheels with a trident motif that creates a fashionable, refined, and sporty aesthetic.

At the rear, the sleek and harmonious design is accentuated by a full-width ‘Wing Star’ LED light signature that enlarges the vehicle and gives it a striking visual presence. The taillight’s sharp edge contour also adds a refined aesthetic, while the smooth lines bring a sense of motion and dynamism to the overall design, enhancing its youthful and sporty appeal.

Six exterior paint finishes are available, including the eye-catching, metallic Starry Night Blue. Included as the standard paint choice, it’s inspired by the famous Starry Night Over the Rhône painting by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh. Solid finished options are Gloss White and Tundra Grey, while pearlescent Dawn Purple, Metallic Black, and Galaxy Silver options are also available.

Interior Design

The B10 Hybrid EV’s sleek exterior lines don’t come at the cost of interior style, space and onboard storage. The cabin is bright, spacious and versatile, anchored by a 14.6-inch floating touchscreen and an 8.8-inch driver display. The layout is also functional and inviting, with seat configurations that transform the space into a comfortable resting area.

A key feature is the 1.8-m2 panoramic sunroof that floods the interiors with natural light, enhancing both well-being and the driving experience. The sunshade, which keeps the interior cool in summer months, can also be controlled via the App and is directly driven by a motor which weighs just 1.3kg and is quieter in operation (-7dB). The laminated roof glass stops 99.75% of all UV rays.

Premium features include the chrome surrounds for the air vents and soft padding for the door panels that feature embroidered bamboo leaf patterns that add a unique charm.

Elsewhere, the ECO leather seats feature a seven-layer construction, combining exceptional comfort with sustainable materials that help to remove harmful gases and reduce odours – these have been independently certified by OEKO-TEX*.

The front seats are both heated and ventilated (3-stage fan, optimised for noise reduction and performance) and electrically operated (6-way driver, 4-way passenger). The steering wheel is also heated. Customers can choose from either a stylish Light Grey theme as standard, with Shadow Grey available as a no-cost option, with each finish extending to the seats, door trims, centre console and dashboard.

Automatic climate control is standard on the B10 Hybrid EV, helping ensure occupants are comfortable regardless of the conditions outside. Also included is an efficient heat pump, which keeps the cabin warm by using heat from the battery that would otherwise be wasted. Not only does this allow the interior to warm quickly, but it’s extremely efficient. Unlike standard heaters, it requires a lot less energy and so does not have a significant impact on battery range.

Class-leading practicality

The B10 Hybrid EV offers the same class-leading practicality as the EV model, with the largest passenger space in the segment. There’s a generous 2,390mm from the rear seats to the front footwells, along with generous headroom in the front and rear. The B10 offers an expansive boot, perfect for young families, with a 1,100mm wide opening and an identical depth, expanding to 1,400mm with the rear seats folded. This contributes to a total boot volume of 330 litres that expands to 1,600 litres with the seats folded.

For added practicality, there are 22 storage spaces throughout the vehicle, including in the centre console, door panels, ceiling, seats, and boot, to meet various daily storage needs. Between the driver and front seat passenger is a handy lidded centre armrest storage that incorporates a tray for two smartphones – the driver’s side holder includes a wireless charging pad. The glovebox has a large 8.5L capacity and can hold a 14-inch laptop.

Another innovative feature is the fully reclining front seats, which can be easily folded flat to create a relaxing space that’s perfect for a quick break, a moment of calm, or simply to stretch out and unwind wherever you are.

Cell-to-Chassis Technology

The B10 Hybrid EV has been developed using Leapmotor’s advanced Cell-to-Chassis technology, integrating the battery directly into the vehicle structure for a new level of efficiency and intelligent design. This approach enhances structural strength and packaging efficiency, while enabling a low centre of gravity for improved stability.

By incorporating the battery into the floor structure, the system delivers superior torsional rigidity, resulting in a strong, safety-focused architecture that improves impact resistance, handling precision and ride comfort. Cell-to-Chassis is a core element of Leapmotor’s next-generation LEAP3.5 centralised electronic and electrical architecture, featuring the innovative ‘Four-Leaf Clover’ design to ensure optimal coordination and efficiency between key vehicle systems.

This highly integrated platform combines cockpit and driving control functions, supported by one of the world’s shortest wiring looms (996 metres), managing up to 22 ECUs and over 200 open-source interfaces, while enabling continuous over-the-air updates. As part of Leapmotor’s full-stack development approach, it enables complete in-house integration of both hardware and software, supporting core functions such as powertrain, intelligent driving and cockpit systems, alongside a highly efficient electric drive system with advanced oil cooling, lightweight design and 94% efficiency for improved performance and durability.

Developed in close collaboration with Stellantis’ global chassis experts, the B10 Hybrid EV has been specifically tuned to meet the demands of European roads – striking an optimal balance between control and comfort.

The B10 Hybrid EV has a McPherson front suspension set-up and an innovative integrated rear multi-link arrangement that incorporates the rear motor to save weight (19% reduction) compared to traditional independent suspension. In addition, the rear-wheel drive B10 Hybrid EV features a staggered tyre set-up (wider at the rear than the front) for enhanced traction and grip.
