- Kia EV2 is the UK’s best-selling retail EV in September
- Kia reaches new September and year-to-date records
- PV5 tops several commercial vehicle charts
- Kia EV range makes up 33% of total year-to-date registrations
Kia UK is celebrating a string of record sales results during a year of important model introductions and continued business growth, including achieving a new September record.
According to the latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Kia achieved 19,242 combined new car and van registrations in September, and reaching just shy of 100,000 (99,903) sales by the end of Q3 resulting in two new records for the Korean firm. These impressive results position Kia firmly on the podium of the new car – and combined new car and van – markets.
The achievement arose with Kia delivering a blend of popular models and powertrains, including continued success for the Sportage, Picanto and consistent monthly sales of the brand’s electric vehicles, EV2, EV3, EV4, and EV5.
Kia’s latest electric compact SUV, the EV2, which only began customer deliveries of the full range in mid-Q3, saw significant and immediate demand from UK customers, with 3,386 registrations year-to-date; 1,753 in September alone. Consequently, the EV2 firmly positioned itself as the UK’s most popular retail-market EV for the month, with 1,429 registrations.
Kia’s well-established fully electric car lineup has long been a popular choice for customers transitioning to electric, or EV, motoring. Year-to-date, the brand has delivered 31,813 electric cars to customers, resulting in its highest proportion of EV registrations yet, accounting for more than 33% of total car registrations. Behind only one electric-only marque, this positions Kia as the UK’s best-selling electric car brand.
Paul Philpott, President and CEO, Kia UK, commented: “This record-breaking September performance reflects the strength of Kia's long-term strategy, our broad range of highly competitive vehicles, and the outstanding support of our dealer network. Achieving almost 100,000 sales by the end of the third quarter is a significant milestone, stimulated by strong demand for both our passenger car and commercial vehicle lineups. As we continue to grow, our focus remains on providing customers with the right products and powertrains backed by leading service, while supporting the UK’s transition to electrified mobility.”
In the commercial vehicle market, Kia continued to deliver on the substantial demand for the fully and exclusively electric PV5. In September, Kia delivered 843 PV5 Cargo units to customers, adding to this year’s total 4,654 registrations to-date. This places the PV5 as the best-selling single e-LCV model in the UK. In Passenger form, a total of 1,704 units have been delivered year-to-date, with 390 in September alone. Further contributing to Kia’s market-leaders, the PV5 Passenger topped September as the most popular ‘van-derived car’.
