  • Northamptonshire Search & Rescue purchased a brand-new Isuzu D-Max DL20 from Westaway Isuzu to support operations.
  • The highly capable Japanese pick-up, named Poppy II, will be used to search for missing vulnerable people across the county’s 900-plus square miles.
  • Northamptonshire Search & Rescue is a registered charity, run by a group of professionally trained volunteers operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Northamptonshire Search & Rescue (NSAR) has chosen Isuzu D-Max, named Poppy II, to carry out decisive search operations for missing people. The DL20 model pick-up, provided by Westaway Isuzu, will be utilised for its ability to cover a variety of terrains from fields and tracks to woodland.

NSAR required a vehicle which is capable, reliable, and efficient, leading to the organisation’s decision to opt for the Isuzu D-Max. Grounded in its commercial workhorse roots, with a 1-tonne payload and 3.5-tonne towing capacity, the pick-up was the ideal option to help reliably and effectively carry out time-critical operations.

The D-Max’s off-road credentials lend themselves well to the demands of the rural terrain of Northamptonshire, with its rear differential lock, shift-on-the-fly 4WD system, and high approach and departure angles. Additionally, all-new Rough Terrain Mode functions in conjunction with the Traction Control System to deliver power to the wheels with the most grip in the trickiest off-road conditions.

Ensuring the vehicle can maximise its efficiency in its role, NSAR has elected to equip the pick-up with a Truckman RS canopy, under-rail load liner, tow bar, heavy-duty seat covers, 3D mats, and BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres. After these accessories were fitted by Westaway Isuzu, the vehicle was wrapped in its striking Battenburg graphics and finished with LED beacons and radio equipment.

Furthermore, the charity will also have the peace of mind of the legendary D-Max reliability, coupled with a five-year/125,000-mile manufacturer warranty alongside five-year UK and European roadside assistance.

Dealer Principal at Westaway Isuzu, Trevor Burfield, said: “Westaway Isuzu is proud to supply Northamptonshire Search & Rescue with a brand-new Isuzu D-Max DL20 to aid and assist them in supporting the local community, most commonly in the search for missing vulnerable people. The Isuzu D-Max offered all the necessary attributes required to cover the 913 square miles of varied terrain across the county. Northamptonshire Search and Rescue is a registered charity run by a group of expertly trained volunteers and operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.”

Incident Commander at Northamptonshire Search and Rescue, Neil Balderson, said: “Poppy II, the replacement for our off-road pick-up Poppy I, is incredibly capable both on and off-road, powerful enough to lift and carry all the kit, and economical enough to help the charity run effectively. A huge thank you to Westaway Motors for their support in sourcing the D-Max.”

Regional Sales Manager at Isuzu UK, Dean Asplin, added: “It’s great to see how much of an ideal fit the Isuzu D-Max is for Northamptonshire Search and Rescue. After getting in contact with the team, who needed a new pick-up to carry out the essential work that they do, Westaway Motors worked very closely with the charity to ensure the specification was to their needs and the Poppy II looks ready to get to work. We hope the D-Max serves the team well and showcases its impressive capabilities off the beaten path.”
